Method

  1. Combine Ingredients: In a medium saucepan, combine the cooked rice, milk, sugar, and a pinch of salt. Stir well to ensure all ingredients are evenly mixed.
  2. Cook: Place the saucepan over medium heat and bring the mixture to a gentle boil. Reduce the heat to low and let it simmer, stirring frequently to prevent sticking, for about 20-25 minutes or until the pudding reaches your desired consistency.
  3. Add Flavorings: Once the pudding has thickened, stir in the vanilla extract, cinnamon, and nutmeg (if using). Add the butter and mix until fully melted and incorporated.
  4. Optional Add-ins: If you enjoy raisins in your rice pudding, stir them in at this stage.
  5. Serve: Remove the pudding from heat and allow it to cool slightly. The pudding will continue to thicken as it cools. Serve warm for a cozy treat, or chill in the refrigerator for a refreshing dessert.
  6. Garnish and Enjoy: For an extra touch, garnish with a sprinkle of cinnamon or a dollop of whipped cream before serving.

Notes

For a twist, try adding a handful of toasted almonds or a drizzle of caramel sauce when serving. This rice pudding is also a great way to use up leftover rice from a previous meal.
